Empowering children in need to succeed in school by providing essential tools for learning.
Founded in 2002 by a former classroom professional determined to equalize the educational opportunities for economically disadvantaged elementary and secondary students in and around St. Louis. KidSmart is the only Free Store in the state of Missouri. It supplies students living at or below poverty with essential school supplies such as paper, pencils, markers, crayons, glue, etc. to students who's parents are obligated to provide food and shelter over basic, but necessary school supplies. In just over a decade, KidSmart has been able to distribute over $28 million in free school supplies to over 100,000 local students.

KidSmart is an amazing organization that believes in the St. Louis children. Without KidSmart's dedication, 60,000 local students would attend school without pencils, paper, books, crayons. Thank you KidSmart for equipping students for success.

How long have you been in business?
KidSmart opened 11 years ago in January of 2002.
What is your primary product or service?
KidSmart serves the students in the St. Louis area who attend school without basic, but essential school supplies such as paper, pencils, crayons, markers, glue, etc. KidSmart distributes school tools to help economically disadvantaged students succeed.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
KidSmart was founded by a former classroom teacher who saw the need for supplies in her classroom each year.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
KidSmart is the only free store in Missouri. Teachers are able to "shop" in the free store for supplies specific to the needs of their students' needs.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
KidSmart's one location is in Bridgeton, Missouri near Highway 270 and St. Charles Rock Road. KidSmart has plans to expand to a larger facility to be able to equip more students, but will still only have one location.
Provide detailed directions to your location
If traveling north on Interstate 270, one would turn East on St. Charles Road Rock. You would travel roughly half a mile and turn South on McKelvey. KidSmart is located on the East side of McKelvey. You take the first left turn. KidSmart is directly behind the Pizza Hut.
What type of payments do you accept?
KidSmart accepts all types of payments. Credit cards may be used online at www.kidsmartstl.org or over the phone (314) 291-6211; checks and cash may be mailed to 12175 Bridgeton Square Drive, Bridgeton, MO 63044
Which areas do you service?
KidSmart serves the St. Louis Metropolitan area and its immediate surrounding areas.
What are your hours of operation?
The KidSmart Free Store is open Tuesday - Thursday 3-6 and Saturday 9-3 during the academic year (August- May). Hours of operation are apt to change due to weather, special events, emergencies, etc. All teachers are notified prior to closing. KidSmart does follow, but is not limited to the Pattonville School District for closings due to severe weather. KidSmart is open for donations Tuesday - Friday 9-5 during the academic year, and Monday - Friday 9-5 during the summer months.
